For more then 500 years, the Region of Valencia has been an area that has always been at the avant-garde of commerce and industry and it has developed its merchant spirit since the time of the Phoenician and the Borgia. Currently, the Valencian harbour is one of the main ports on the Mediterranean coast, and the Valencian region also counts with institutions like Bancaja - the fifth most important financial institution of the country.

Castellón

Castellón has about 180.000 inhabitants and there are two other towns amounting to another 100.000 inhabitants that can be found in the metropolitan area of this city on the Mediterranean coast.

Castellón stands out because of its wide range of leisure activities and the city also counts with a wide offer of restaurants and bars. There are plenty of recreational activities available at sea as well as in the mountains, and the youth is open to other cultures thanks to the region’s “multi-culturality” Moreover, the city’s public University attracts many students from all over the world every year.

Castellón has an impressive industry, the 2nd most important sector in Spain, that exports all over the world, and as well a powerful tourist sector especially around the town of Benicasim with its FIB, International Festival of Benicasim, visited by approximately 40.000 visitors every summer.

Castellón is a city with an excellent quality of life due to the public services offered to its citizens and visitors. It counts with good transport facilities, and one of its strong points is the cleanliness - it has been named Spain’s cleanest city.

During the last years, Castellón has put an emphasis on its modernisation through the construction of various peculiar buildings - some developed by designers with international prestige like Frank Gehry, and others fruits of intense work and the avant-garde movement of Castellón’s architect community.

Furthermore, it is only at one hour from Valencia by train - capital of the region with more than 2 million inhabitants caracterised by its modernity.

Valencia

Valencia represents the avant-garde of the Region of Valencia, and has become the leader of the renewable energy sector of Spain.

Being the capital and largest city of the Region of Valencia, it is the third city of Spain by population - with 1,850,000 inhabitants in the metropolitan area.

With its new urban circuit, the city has been seat of the European Gran Prix Formula 1 since 2008. Furthermore, Valencia has been seat of the 32nd and 33rd America's Cup in 2007 and 2009.

During centuries, Valencia has been source and shelter of the Spanish culture. Currently, there are still plenty of cultural displays - one the most important ones being the Fallas (referring to huge cardboard and papier-mâché artistic monuments that are put up in the streets of Valencia) that are celebrated every year in March and end the day of Saint Joseph with the famous Créma (burning) of these monuments.

One of the most important architects of the world was born here, Calavatra, who has designed amongst others also the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia that may be found in the Garden Jardín del Turia (also known as the River) together with other numerous infrastructures, sport facilities and play areas like the Gulliver Park.
